Description
This sale is for one (1)CONTROLLER,
REMOTELY OPERATED
TYPE A-12
In layman’s terms, this is the
Turn Controller
that the Navigator/Bombardier used to ‘steer’ the plane on a horizontal axis during the bomb run.
This particular device owes its existence to a late WWII Norden Bombsight modification, the Bombardier’s Turn Knob assy (we occasionally offer those for sale,
but not part of this sale
).
While the Norden was being phased out by the time the
Stratojet
arrived, their Navigator/Bombardiers still had the ability of controlling horizontal movement of their aircraft in order to line up the target.
This
A-12 Controller
was removed from a Bomber - probably at Davis Monthan - many decades ago and shows minor wear, both from use & long-term storage. Notice the safety wiring that locked the AUTOMATIC/MANUAL lever on the former. Must have had something to do with the type of ordnance this particular
Stratojet
was carrying . . .
Nice nomenclature plate, and
AN
+
SG
(Sperry Gyroscope) inspector's stamps. Don't know who the
T
inspector's stamp represented (Boeing perhaps?)
The
A-12 Turn Controller
seen in the images above is the one you’ll receive.
Postage includes insurance / additional coverage is extra - if requested at time of purchase.
