September 1899 - Luzon, The Philippines. Regular Army officer, Colonel J. Franklin Bell, commanding the 36th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment, fearlessly leads his advance guard against an enemy position of Filipino Army soldiers. Bell's courageous performance earned him the Medal of Honor and was indicative of many gallant efforts rendered by U.S. soldiers during the brutal four year Philippine-American War (1899-1902).
