Iron Cross German 2nd Class Vintage Antique Original. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS First Class. The Iron Cross was a decoration awarded for outstanding service in the field, to all ranks. It was awarded in two classes, the Iron Cross for sale in this auction is the Iron Cross 2nd Class. Originally this award included a black and white ribbon threaded through the loop. The ribbon from this Iron Cross is long gone.The Iron Cross is silver and iron. The marks on the ring appear to be 800 (the silver content, 80%), an imperial crown and a half moon, which was a hallmark for silver after 1871. There are two further unclear letters which look like an N and something else, unclear stamping, which has partly worn down. Many of these crosses have a cracked or broken iron insert as they are somewhat delicate and can break if dropped or mishandled. The iron in this cross is undamaged.
