Description
My auction is for a pair of original WWII lucky little bells, charm/pendants from the Island of Capri, Southern Italy. Research indicates they were individually hand crafted in the mid 1940s perhaps by a shop owner named Olimpia in Capri or by Monks. Each one is unique and historical in its own right.Inscription:
Campanina Della Fortuna
San Michele
Made in Italy
Four leaf clover with “Capri” inside clover
I hold these with deserved reverence. The bells would have been purchased and worn by a USA Army Air Corp Pilot or American soldier during WWII or to send to family back home. These bells were believed
to bring luck. It is my understanding that
they would be worn
on flight jackets, attached to zipper pulls etc. but there is much more you may learn online or elsewhere
.
Good original condition. Some signs of expected wear. Wonderful patina; tarnish; which appears slightly different in shade dependent upon lighting. I have not cleaned or polished in all the years I have owned and displayed in my smoke free, pet free home. I purchased years ago from estate of original owner.
I am uncertain if silverplate over brass; copper or Sterling. I haven’t had the bells tested and can find no marking. Still has moveable clapper and ringer bell. Please look closely at pics since they are integral part of description before choosing to bid.
Will ship free to buyer - Continental USA only - priority mail with shipping and tracking. Two bells only items for sale. Thank you.
