    Description

Goldenes Verwundetenabzeichen, I. Weltkrieg, durchbrochene Ausführung
Rare cut-out version of the Gold Wound Badge.
The Gold Wound Badge was awarded for 5 or more wounds. Also Awarded posthumously.
    The badge had three classes:
Black (3rd class, representing Iron), for those wounded once or twice by hostile action.
Silver (2nd class) for being wounded three or four times.
Gold (1st class, which could be awarded posthumously) for five or more times wounded.
Badges were made of pressed steel, brass and zinc. Gold versions were gilded in a golden color. The most rare versions were the “Ausführung” Cut-out types.  All versions of the Wound Badge were worn on the lower left breast of the uniform or tunic.
