    Description

This is an exceptionally fine World War I Bavarian Pilot’s Badge by A. Werner & Sӧhne that remains in excellent condition. It is of hollow construction with plain back plate. In the center is the “AWS” logo of the A. Werner & Sӧhne firm of Berlin. There is a single “weep” hole below the pin catch. The badge is surmounted by a beautiful cut out Bavarian crown and is with a fine age toned patina to the silver. The pin assembly is present and fully functional. The badge is housed in a plush presentation case that is with faux textured maroon leatherette covering to the exterior and functional push button spring catch that holds the case firmly shut. The interior lid is lined with wine red satin and the name “Robert Strobel – Wertheim a. Main” in gold leaf. The badge rests on a wine-red velvet base that is cut out for the pin assembly. The red satin hinge cover is torn from years of opening and closing the case. The Bavarian aviation badges by A. Werner & Sӧhne are very difficult to obtain, and this scarce example remains in excellent + condition.
