*Springfield 1903 Test Bolt. Original US Ordnance Gage.

Original 1903 1903A3 US Ordnance Field Test Bolt .
Seldom found  Very scarce original US ordnance item and would fit many Gage or Mil. Rifle collections.
Test bolts are u
sed with headspace gages to detect worn out barreled actions during Field inspections and Depot rebuild.
This gage was factory made with the standard features of handle and 3 lugs, however the striker cut-out and threading has not been machined(
as seen in 2nd photo
), and the firing pin hole and bolt face recess has not been made.  Bolt face is solid, as seen in photos. Bolt is stamped "FIELD TEST BOLT  MIN. .509 "
This Gage appears to be used either; in the field, at Company level arms room, or as an in-factory manufacturing aide/gage.
Don't see any company names, there looks like a partial "C" stamped on the backside of the handle(
see in 3rd photo
).
